About Us

My wife Carol, and I are both natives of Florida. We now make our home on the eastern slope of Mt. Mitchell in Western North Carolina, where in 1995, we established a studio/shop building custom art furniture. Since the early 1970's, when we sold two motorcycles to fund the purchase of a radial arm saw, we have developed our skills building custom furniture and architectural millwork for interior designers and architects. Upon moving to North Carolina, we decided to concentrate more on executing our own designs, focusing heavily on the use of exotic and dyed wood veneers. PurpTblDetail_sml.jpg

Introduced to working with veneers through early commissions for tables and specialty doors in various architectural projects, our work tended mainly to the traditional patterns; diamonds, reverse diamonds, starbursts and such. While still maintaining a solid traditional base, we now have more freedom to explore work, which is less structured in its expression, particularly in the selection of wood species and the use of color.

Our work has been featured on the Home & Gardens Television Network show "Modern Masters" and publications such as Niche Magazine and Custom Woodworking Business.

While intarsia and marquetry have a solid influence on our work, we tend towards more abstract and geometric patterns, trying to use the grain and character of the wood to give interest and impact to a design. By orienting direction of grain, the way light refracts from the surface can be used to give some very interesting 3-dimensional effects. There is always something interesting hiding in that tree.
